Ardgillan is situated on the elevated coastline between Balbriggan and Skerries, 20 miles north of Dublin City. It is unique among Dublin's Regional Parks for the magnificent views it enjoys of the coastline. A panorama, taking in Rockabill Lighthouse, Colt, Church, Shenick and Lambay Islands may be seen from several places in the park. On most days the Cooley and Mourne mountains, some forty miles north of Ardgillan may be seen, including Slieve Gullion which is 1,894 feet (577 meters) in height.

The Park consists of 194 acres of rolling pasture land, mixed woodland and gardens, overlooking the Bay of Drogheda. Ardgillan is a sanctuary for many species of mammals and birds for which the densely wooded grounds provide a safe retreat from surrounding agricultural land.

Driving There.

From Dublin City head north and jump onto the N1 and head toward Balbriggan in Co. Dublin, or as you leave Dublin airport turn left instead of right. The Castle is fully signposted as you get nearer to Balbriggan. From Drogheda head south on the N1 towards Balbriggan, again the Castle is well signposted, also, print and use the map below as a simple guide.

Coaches can access the Demesne through Balrothery just south of Balbriggan. The bus route to take from Dublin City centre at Eden Quay is the No. 33 which will drop you off at the "Ladies Stairs" on the road between Balbriggan and Skerries, the pedestrian entrance to the Demesne via a bridge which spans the road and railway line.
